So, my name is Christopher Fung, but you can call me Chris. I have a middle name too (it’s Joseph), but I never use it; I also have a Chinese name (Yao4 Hui1), but I barely use it either. I’m a California native, and have lived here all my life. Living someplace that has more than one season intrigues me and I may try it one day; however, I think I'd miss the 24/7/365 sun eventually.

Language is my biggest passion. I would guess that’s why I’m a Linguistics (and Computer Science) major. I love all fields of linguistics, from phonology to morphology to historical linguistics. My favorite field, however, has to be syntax.

I can speak at least three languages with some degree of fluency. My English is best, of course; followed by French, which I can use competently enough to get around Paris without needing an interpreter; followed by Mandarin, which I can read pretty well but can't speak for two cents.

I'm also pretty big on web design, web development, and that whole "Web 2.0" thing that's been flying around of late. I made my first website when I was in 4th grade; I've progressed a lot since then. I'm very comfortable with (X)HTML, CSS, and Javascript, as well as PHP, Python, Ruby, and the associated frameworks.

I don't actually use this journal for blogging (though that may change without notice someday); I keep up with fandoms and such here, and that's pretty much it.

It's a habit of mine to name blogs after lines from Emily Dickinson poems. The namesake of this blog is reproduced below:

WHEN night is almost done,
And sunrise grows so near
That we can touch the spaces,
It ’s time to smooth the hair

And get the dimples ready.
And wonder we could care
For that old faded midnight
That frightened but an hour.

- Emily Dickinson
